Exhibition Station is a special-purpose railway station in Brisbane, the state capital of Queensland, Australia. It forms part of the Exhibition Line of the Queensland Rail City network.
It is in Zone 1 of the TransLink integrated public transport system. However an extra ticket surcharge must be paid to travel to this station.[1][2][3] In 2009, TransLink CEO Peter Strachan blamed the surcharge on the RNA not willing to pick up the cost of running the station.[4]
The station is located at the Brisbane Exhibition Ground (RNA Showgrounds), the venue for the annual Royal Queensland Show (the Ekka). It is only operational during the Ekka (usually held for ten days in August), for the purposes of conveying passengers to and from the Show, and occasionally for other large exhibitions at the site. During the remainder of the year the station does not operate. Because of the requirements of the Show, the station is equipped with facilities for dealing with livestock.
